Another way that works for me is putting 4 or 5 large (not the mini ones) right in the container, cover, and shake to distribute the marshmallows. Keep in for as long as you want and replace the marshmallows when you want.

I read somewhere – and have tried using – a handful of mini marshmallows in my brown sugar container keeps it soft. I put a handful of marshmallows in a small cheesecloth bag and drop it in my container – and it works!
