Weekends are the best for a lot of reasons. One of those is getting to have a fun treat for breakfast.

Once I’ve had my coffee, weekend mornings are the perfect time to throw together a pan of cinnamon rolls with heavy cream, Bisquick waffles, or even a batch of classic cake donuts.

As much as I love to stop by the local donut shop, sometimes we just want homemade donuts, ya know? And these cake donuts always hit the spot, especially when we coat them in a variety of sugars and glazes and sprinkles.

If your family lives for their weekend breakfasts, you’ve gotta give these cake donuts a try.

I think we all have recipes that remind us of our childhoods.

For me, it’s recipes like my Nana’s pumpkin crunch cake, honey bun cake, or chocolate zucchini bread.

For Eric, it’s his grandma’s chocolate glazed donuts.

I don’t make donuts all that often, but for some reason, fall seems like the perfect time to make them. Maybe it’s because I automatically associate fall with apple cider donuts, or maybe it’s just that they’re such a comfort-food breakfast.

Overhead view of sprinkle-topped chocolate-glazed donuts scattered on a wire rack.

In Eric’s book, a donut is not a donut unless it’s dipped in chocolate. So these sweet little cake donuts are dipped in a chocolate glaze – and topped with some sprinkles, of course!

Eric enjoyed chocolate glazed donuts every Christmas during his childhood, and they even graced the breakfast table after a special sleepover.

I hope you use this recipe to make some special memories of your own!

It’s finally chilly here in Ohio, which means it’s almost time for sweater weather, fall decorating, and pumpkin spice everything.

I may have put out all my fall decor weeks ago, but I’m so glad it’s finally appropriate now. I couldn’t wait anymore!

One of my absolute favorite things about fall is our annual trip to the orchard. We round up the family to spend the afternoon together picking apples, going on hay rides, and winding our way through the corn maze.

And although I adore all of those things, my absolute favorite thing about our day at the orchard are warm apple cider donuts served up with a piping hot cup of spiced apple cider.

These sweet apple cider donuts are everything you want in a fall treat. Whip them up before a chilly day out enjoying the fall leaves, or make them at night to go with a fun fall movie and some popcorn.

I can’t imagine a more cozy evening!

Believe it or not, I used to be totally intimidated by working with yeast. So there was a time when making homemade bread, much less homemade doughnuts, would never have happened.

But eventually I learned that working with yeast really isn’t scary at all. And truthfully, neither is deep frying!

There are just a few simple things to know along the way. With a little bit of confidence and some patience, you can serve your family delicious homemade doughnuts for breakfast this weekend!

Blueberry Doughnut Muffins bake up high and mighty and are topped with a sweet and tangy lemon glaze. So perfect for summer!

My mornings have definitely been starting a bit earlier since I began working out on a consistent basis. And since I struggle to be on time to pretty much everything, meeting my personal trainer at the gym at 6:45 AM is challenging to say the least.

He pretty much knows to expect me to run up the stairs around 6:50 each morning.

I have never been and probably never will be a morning person. Instead, I’m that person who sets their alarm to buzz about 30 minutes before I have to wake up just so I can hit the snooze button several times – it makes me feel like I’m pulling one over on the Sandman.

However, I’m pretty sure that I’m just annoying my husband. But hey, he knew this about me before we got married.

Use your fingertips to incorporate the zest into the sugars until it is moist and fragrant. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment or in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, cream together the butter, vegetable oil, and sugars until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla, beating to combine. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour and making sure everything is thoroughly combined. Fold in the blueberries. Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared pan, filling the cups nearly full. Bake the muffins for 15 to 17 minutes, or until they’re a pale golden brown and a cake tester inserted into the middle of one of the center muffins comes out clean. In a medium bowl, prepare the glaze by mixing together the melted butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, lemon juice and water. Whisk until smooth. When muffins have cooled slightly, dip the muffin crown into the glaze and allow the glaze to harden. At this point, you can leave them as is or go for the double dip. I glazed my muffins twice. Serve warm, or cool on a rack and wrap airtight. Muffins will keep at room temperature for about a day. " ] }

Baked Chocolate Donuts with strawberry frosting are a sweet and enticing breakfast. Grab one on your way to work for a delicious commute!

Hi, everyone! I’m Brandy from the blog Nutmeg Nanny! I’m super excited to be here on My Baking Addiction and sharing with you my guilty pleasure – donuts.

Donuts are basically the best thing on planet earth. I know there are a lot of people who disagree with my donut enthusiasm but that’s ok.

I don’t need the whole world to love donuts as much as I do. I also spell it donut so no emails about how it’s supposed to be spelled doughnut. I like to believe we can live in a world where donut and doughnut spellers can live together in peace.

Gluten-Free Pumpkin Donut Holes will make your Fall breakfast extra special. Great for the weekday or weekend brunch.

Gluten-free pumpkin donut holes are rolled in cinnamon sugar and are generously spiced. They’re tender and perfect for breakfast or brunch.

It’s only the beginning of October but I’ve already read some comments around the blogosphere about how people are tired of pumpkin. I really hope you all aren’t because for me, October is only the start of pumpkin season!

I know some people started posting pumpkin recipes back in August, and I totally get that people were excited, but I had a whole bunch of apples to enjoy before I even thought about pumpkin.

From the moment I spotted these mini donuts on Bakers Royale, I was absolutely smitten with their adorableness. For some reason I find miniaturized things to be irresistible and come on, who doesn’t love a donut? So when I found myself with an Amazon gift card, I just had to snag the mini donut pan.

I’m not really one to purchase a ton of novelty pans, because they end up sitting unused and taking up space in already ridiculously full cabinets. However, I knew this Wilton Mini Donut Pan would give me the perfect bite-size treats for Valentine’s Day, so I couldn’t resist it. Conveniently, the pan came with a basic baked donut recipe that I used as a base and then added some of my own Valentine flair!

Although this novelty did not taste like your typical fried “donut”, they were very tasty and virtually hassle-free due to the absence of the oily mess that comes with frying. The mini donuts had a fluffy, cake-like texture that left everyone begging for more. The infusion of the lemon zest and vanilla, they had the perfect hint of sweetness that was not overwhelming with the addition of the candy melt glaze. I simply piped the batter into the pan, baked and dipped these adorable minis into pink and white candy melts for the topping. Adding the Valentine décor just added to their appeal.

This is the perfect one-bite, guilty pleasure and as you can see, were soooo adorable that I had to share them with you all. I highly recommend using these for something like a school Valentine’s Day celebration, or just to give to that special someone as a sweet treat. I guarantee they will be a big hit!

Mini Baked Lemon Donuts

Ingredients:

½ cup granulated sugar
Zest of 1 lemon
1¼ cups cake flour, sifted
1¼ tsp. baking powder
¾ tsp. salt
½ cup buttermilk
1 egg, lightly beaten
1½ tbsp. butter, melted
½ teaspoon of vanilla

Directions:

Prepare pan with baking spray.

1. Heat oven to 425 degrees F.

2. In a small bowl combine sugar and lemon zest until the sugar is moistened and fragrant.

3. In a large mixing bowl, sift together cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in sugar mixture.

4. Add buttermilk, egg, butter, and vanilla and stir until just combined.

5. Add batter to a piping bag and fill each donut cup approximately one-half full.

6. Bake 4–6 minutes or until the top of the donuts spring back when touched.

7. Let cool in pan for 4–5 minutes before removing. Finish the donuts with glaze, sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar.

Notes:

- To decorate the mini donuts, I dipped them in candy melts and adorned them with cute Valentine's Day sprinkles from Wilton. Simply melt according to package directions, invert the top of the donuts into the melted candy melts and immediately top with sprinkles.
